Trip Reports

A trip report will provide a variety of details including GPS coordinates (when available), good photographic locations, campsites, elevation details, and detailed explananations of the landscapes and trails.  These trip reports can vary from week-long backpacking trips, to weekend trips, to day-hikes and even road trips.  I’ll try to give info whenever possible on good photographic opportunities and driving/hiking tips for the area.

Weminuche Wilderness: Elk Park to Needleton Shuttle Hike (Colorado)

A 5-7 day loop in one of the most remote wilderness areas in the continental US.  Two mountain passes crossing the continental divide and the opportunity to climb three 14ers, along with some great photography potential.  And you can even get a train to drop you off and pick you up.

Pecos Wilderness: Trampas Lakes (New Mexico)

(coming soon) A simple hike into a beautiful New Mexico basin at the tail end of the Sangre de Cristo mountains.

Red Feather Lakes (Colorado)

(coming soon) A small community in the northern Rockies that I’ve been visiting since the early 1980’s.

Highway 14 west from Ft. Collins (Colorado)

(coming soon) A beautiful drive through Poudre Canyon and then up over the continental divide toward Walden.

Crater Lake National Park (Oregon)

(coming soon) A unique lake in southern Oregon that has perhaps the worst mosquitos in the US.  Oh, and the water is a shade of bluish purple that looks fake in your photos afterword.

Mt Rainier National Park, southern section near Paradise (Washington)

(coming soon) The southern side is a great place to car-camp and go on a variety of day-hikes.  Waterfalls galore, one of the prettiest places I’ve ever been.

Columbia River Gorge (Oregon)

(coming soon) One of THE drives to do in the US.  Great dayhikes from a variety of trailheads along the road, all leading to some breathtaking waterfalls.

Big Basin Redwoods State Park (California)

(coming soon) I was lucky to be able to visit this state park when I was in San Jose for business.  Nice old-growth Redwood hikes.

Redwood National Park (California)

(coming soon) A few spread-out areas across northern California that protected the last of the old-growth redwoods

Rocky Mountain National Park, elk photography (Colorado)

(coming soon) A short explanation of photographing elk in the fall.
